How do I arrange antenatal care?

If your pregnancy is healthy, you will need to book for antenatal care at the hospital where you wish to have your baby.

There are usually a few ways to do this:

  1. GP – If you see your GP, they can arrange this and an appointment will be made with the community Midwife so you can be booked in with them and arrange your next scan  at about 12 weeks.
  2. Self-referral. Most hospital maternity departments will now allow you to register on line for antenatal care. If not, it is usually possible to attend in the antenatal clinic reception in person and fill in the necessary paperwork.
  3. Early Pregnancy Units – most EPUs will be able to register you for your continuing antenatal care whilst in the department.
